Wulff (various patterns)
Wulff (various patterns)
Lee Wulff's signature fly patterns utilize hair instead of feathers for wings and tails, thus creating a much bushier, higher floating, and much more durable fly. It is hard to beat the Wulff series of flies and this is one of the best is right here. The Irresistible Wulff is great all purpose dry fly, like an Adams Irresistible all bulked up.
Drakes are one of the larger mayflies of the summer season, outsizing the regular blue duns of spring. The Wulff Green Drake is ideal for imitating this large mayfly. These large duns are often seen struggling frantically to get off the water after they hatch, making them very conspicuous and easy prey for large hungry fish.
The Brown Drake imitates the mayfly species (Ephemera simulans). This species is widespread in the West, from Yellowstone to California to Alaska. Out west, emerges later in the year than in the East, extending throughout June and into mid-July. Exceptionally high altitude and latitude can delay it into October. This Wulff Brown Drake is a very tough fly and a good floater.
